Walsh Named Skyline & ECAC Rookie Of The Week; Kennedy Earns Skyline Weekly Honor Roll Nod

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 13, 2017) – USMMA freshman James Walsh (Huntington, N.Y.) earned a pair of Rookie of the Week honors this week from the Skyline Conference on Monday and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) on Tuesday. It was the second time this season that the guard earned the distinction from the Skyline and the first time he earned the DIII Metro ROW honor from the ECAC. Additionally, senior Robbie Kennedy (Spring Lake, N.J.) was selected to the Skyline men's basketball weekly honor roll.

Both Walsh and Kennedy received the accolades after their performances in the Mariners' three games last week – a 93-88 road loss to Coast Guard in overtime on Tuesday, a 71-53 home win over Farmingdale State on Thursday and a 74-72 triple-overtime home victory over Mount St. Vincent on Sunday.

Walsh scored in double-figures off the bench in all three games, with a career-high 20 points in the loss to the Bears on Tuesday and back-to-back 10-point performances in the two Skyline wins on Thursday and Sunday. He also had five rebounds and three steals against Coast Guard and six boards against Mount St. Vincent. Walsh drained 11 three-pointers on the week – six against Coast Guard, two against Farmingdale and three against CMSV.

Kennedy scored a career-high 25 points in the Mariners' victory reigning Skyline champs Farmingdale on Thursday night. He followed that up with 15 points in the win over Mount St. Vincent. Kennedy got in early foul trouble against Mount St. Vincent, but scored 10 points to lead all players in the three overtime periods. All 10 of his OT points came when he scored every point for the Mariners from 2:17 of the second overtime to the eventual game-winning shot at 1:02 of the third OT, including a game-tying layup with eight seconds left in the second overtime. Five of his seven three-pointers on the week came against Farmingdale, and two of his 3's were against CMSV (one in the third OT, as part of his 10-straight points for USMMA.)
