MADISON, N.J. – On Thursday morning, the Landmark Conference office released its 2010-11 men's basketball all-conference teams and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy had three impressive accolades. Senior forward Matt Hueber (Alexandria, Va.) was tabbed to the First Team, while fellow senior forward Tom Izzo (Bridgeport, W. Va.) notched a spot on the Second Team. Izzo was also named the Defensive Player of the Year.
Hueber finished his final season in a Mariners uniform ranked 10th in the league in scoring with 13.0 points per game. In the rebounding department, the Alexandria native was fourth with 7.5 boards per contest. Additionally, with his 56.4% clip from the charity stripe, Hueber was fifth around the conference. On Senior Day this past Saturday, he scored his 1,000th career point, joining the illustrious club. This marks Hueber's third all-league selection.
Izzo finished second on the team and 16th in the Landmark with 12.2 points per game. The Bridgeport native was sixth in the Landmark in steals with 1.88 per game. Izzo also eclipsed the 1,000-career point benchmark this season and finds himself on an All-Landmark squad for the third team in four years.
Kings Point finished the season with an overall record of 14-12, after falling to the top-seeded University of Scranton last night in the Landmark Conference Semifinals, 74-71 in overtime.
