Gartner Earns Second-Straight NEWMAC Special Teams Player Of The Week Honor

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2018) – The NEWMAC Conference announced the weekly honors for football for the week ending Oct. 21 and USMMA junior kicker Gavin Gartner (Cedar Park, Texas) was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for the second-consecutive week. The accolade comes after his performance in the Mariners' big 25-24 come-from-behind home victory over WPI this past Saturday, Oct. 20.

Gartner accounted for five of the Mariners' points in the victory. He nailed a 33-yard field goal in the third quarter and was 2-for-2 on PATs, with both coming in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead PAT with just 38 seconds left. He also had a big day on kickoffs, averaging 52.8 yards on five kickoffs, including a huge touchback after the game-winning touchdown.

This is the third-straight week that the Mariners have garnered the Special Teams Player of the Week, as Gartner earned it last week (Oct. 15) and classmate Joe Vitelli (Warrington, Pa.) earned it two weeks ago (Oct. 9).
