Kings Point, NY – USMMA Head Football Coach Mike Toop has announced the Mariners schedule for the upcoming 2013 campaign. The slate will feature the same ten teams as last year with USMMA coming off of its most successful season in the last decade. The schedule is highlighted by a September 14th meeting with arch rival Coast Guard at Brooks Stadium for the coveted Secretaries' Cup.
The Mariners will open the season September 7 against Susquehanna, a team that the Academy is familiar with as the two programs share primary affiliation in the Landmark Conference. USMMA will then look to continue its recent dominance over Coast Guard and win the Secretaries' Cup for the 13th time in 16 years. The Mariners defeated the Bears last year, 43-37, in New London in a wild shootout. The non-conference action will conclude against another rival in Maritime (NY) as Coach Toop will take his team over the Throggs Neck Bridge to face the Privateers.
Merchant Marine kicks-off its Liberty League schedule with a stiff test on September 28 for Homecoming. The Mariners will host defending Liberty League Champion and national quarterfinalist Hobart at 2:00 pm. USMMA will then play back-to-back road games against Rensselaer and Rochester (NY) before a October 19th clash with Springfield at Brooks Stadium. The month of October will conclude on the road at WPI before the Mariners head into their bye week.
Union will come to Kings Point November 9th in Merchant Marine's final home game of the 2013 season. The regular season finale will be a battle for the Hoffman Cup as USMMA squares-off with St. Lawrence. The Mariners claimed the cup last year with a 33-12 rout of the Saints.
