USMMA Hosts Wounded Warriors at Golf Outing

On July 23rd, the United States Merchant Marine Academy Athletics Department hosted a handful of wounded warriors at their 21st Annual Golf Outing at Engineers Country Club in Roslyn, NY.

Bernadette Beckwell, Robert Loria, and Rodjean Thorman who are pictured with current USMMA midshipmen are all veterans of the current War in Iraq and were wounded serving the United States overseas.  "It was a small gesture but one way our alums could say thank you and recognize their outstanding sacrifices to our country," said Sue Petersen Lubow, Athletics Director at USMMA.  What an inspiration to us all!!"

The Wounded Warriors Project was founded to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation's history.  Its purpose is to raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members, help  injured service members aid and assist each other, and provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.  To learn more about the project visit: http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/

The Heidmar Blue & Gray Golf Classics benefit the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and its Department of Athletics.  Heidmer Inc., a successful tanker vessel trader and marine service provider serves as the tour's National Title Sponsor.  The proceeds from the outings benefit the men and women midshipmen who represent the Academy on the intercollegiate athletic fields as well as the entire physical education department; affecting the entire regiment.  For more information on Blue & Gray Golf Outings visit: http://www.blueandgraygolf.com/ssp/home
