Sea Year: For Harrison, seeing the world just got better and better
Before he attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, the furthest that senior defensive back Jake Harrison had journeyed from his native Boston was to the west coast in California. But that all changed in his plebe year on his Year at Sea. So imagine the reaction Harrison had when he had the opportunity to see the world halfway around the world in lands and places he could never dream of visiting.

Mariners finish up on a winning note, down RPI, 31-24; 1st win in Troy since 1960
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy wrapped up its season on a winning note on Saturday, winning at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the first time since 1960. Junior quarterback Alex Coviello ran for 135 yards and threw for 164 and three touchdowns to lead the Mariners to a 31-24 Liberty victory over RPI in the season finale for both teams.

Raising money to battle pediatric cancer is not a hairy situation for the football team
The football team had a close shave on Friday afternoon, and the Mariners didn’t even play a game. Some 60 members of the team ventured down to the U.S. Merchant Marine barbershop to get their heads shaved to raise money for Mikey Lograno-Weinstein, a five-year-old from Rockaway Beach, N.Y. who has pediatric brain cancer.
