KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 12, 2016) – On Monday, the Landmark Conference announced that USMMA freshman starting pitcher Andrew Spinnenweber (Pasadena, Md.) was named the league's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 10. The honor, which is the first of the rookie's career, comes after his performance in the second game of the Mariners' doubleheader sweep of Landmark opponent Scranton on Sunday.
Spinnenweber tossed his first career complete game victory in Merchant Marine's 9-2 win over the Royals to improve his record to 2-3 overall on the season. After allowing two runs on one hit in the opening inning, the freshman settled in and allowed only two more hits the rest of the game. He finished with seven innings pitched, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out six Scranton batters.
