Baseball Upended at St. Joseph's (LI)

Patchogue, NY - The USMMA baseball team suffered an 11-4 loss at the hands of St. Joseph's (LI) Wednesday night.  The game was scheduled earlier this week as the Mariners original match-up against Maritime (NY) was cancelled.  Andrew MacKinnon (Buffalo, NY) led Merchant Marine with two RBI while Joseph Policastro (Hauppauge, NY), Danny Collins (Sleepy Hollow, NY), and Warren Hartmann (Wyckoff, NJ) all recorded a stolen base.

St. Joseph's (LI) (12-17). opened up a 7-0 lead over the first five innings of action after forcing USMMA to leave the bases loaded in the top of the first.  Jake Martin (San Diego, CA) was able to limit the damage for the Mariners with three scoreless innings of relief.

Merchant Marine (13-12) broke onto the scoreboard in the sixth with RBIs from Tyler Alger (Fairfax, VA) and Quinn Fleming (Ashburn, VA).  MacKinnon's two-run single in the eighth made it a 7-4 game but the Mariners would again strand the bases loaded to end the inning.  In all, USMMA would leave 15 runners on base en route to the 11-4 setback.

The Mariners return to the diamond this weekend for a crucial three-game Landmark Conference series at Juniata.
