USMMA downed by Moravian, End Season Shy of Landmark Finals

The United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners were eliminated from the Landmark Conference playoffs by the top-seeded Moravian Greyhounds Sunday afternoon.

Although the Mariners got on the board first taking a 2-0 lead on a groundout by junior infielder Dustin Thomsen and a single by freshman catcher Jacob Wood, they were unable to hold it falling by a final score of 10-3.

Errors killed the Mariners, especially in the fourth inning when Kings Point committed three of their four for the game.  Moravian was able to take the lead scoring four unearned runs never relinquishing their advantage for the remainder of the contest as Greyhounds freshman pitcher Chris Lansberry threw nine innings and struck out three to preserve the victory.

The Mariners end their season winning 20 games for only the second time in team history.
