Jose Ferrer enters his first year with the United States Merchant Marine Academy as the Mariners' Outside Linebackers Coach in 2012.

Prior to joining the Mariners, he coached at Information Technology High School in Long Island City as the Offensive Line and Defensive Line Coach in 2011 and as Head Coach in 2007.  As head coach, he helped produce the school’s all-time leading rusher, all-time leading tackler and all-time sack leader.   He was also the Head JV football coach for Jamaica High School from 2009-2010.  In addition, Ferrer was an assistant at Springfield Gardens High School in 2003 where he was a part of a staff that guided the Golden Eagles to their only two winning seasons in the past decade.

In 1999, he was the JV Defensive Line Coach for Christ the King High School where he coached several league sack leaders.  Before his time in NYC, Ferrer was an assistant video coordinator for the University of Central Florida from 1996-1998, where he would breakdown film for practice and games.  In addition, he was an assistant coach for Winter Park High School during that same time period.  While at Winter Park High he worked with the varsity team as a Wide Receivers Coach and the JV team as a Quarterback and Running Backs Coach. 

In 2008, Ferrer received his Master’s degree in Sport Management from Brooklyn College.  Ferrer  currently resides in Babylon, NY with his wife Yvette and two children: Jacob (12) and Andrea (10)
