Andrew Malson enters his first season on the Mariners coaching staff and will serve as the coach of the defensive backs. Malson completed the 2012 season as a Graduate Assistant Coach at Western Michigan University. He was the defensive line coach for the Broncos and compiled practice and game plans as well as recruited in the state of Missouri.
Malson was the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for three seasons at his alma mater, Westminster College, from 2010-12. In 2011, his defense was ranked tops in all of Division III in forced turnovers and fumbles recovered. Malson developed weekly game plans, practice plans, coordinated film exchange, and handled team travel arrangements. He was also responsible for recruiting in Arizona, California, Texas, Illinois, Oklahoma, and Missouri.
Malson’s coaching career began as a Graduate Assistant Coach working with defensive backs at Missouri Western State University. His specific duties included scouting and video breakdown, defensive scouting reports, and on-campus recruiting. Malson was a two-time UMAC All-Conference Center at Westminster and served as a team captain during his senior season. At the Academy he will be responsible for recruiting in California, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and Oklahoma
