Melinda Eng, a native of Floral Park, New York, has been at the Academy since 2001 and has been the Head Athletic Trainer since 2005.
As Head Athletic Trainer, Eng is responsible for the prevention,
evaluation, and recognition of athletic injuries, illness,
rehabilitation and reconditioning for all of the Academy's varsity
athletic programs. Prior to coming to USMMA, Eng served as an
Assistant Athletic Trainer at Wagner College for two years, where
she went earned her Master's of Science in Education with a
concentration in Biology in 2001. At Wagner, Eng worked with
the Women’s soccer, Football, Volleyball and Men's and
Women's Lacrosse teams.
While obtaining her Bachelor's of Science in Athletic Training at
Hofstra University, Eng worked as a student Athletic Trainer, where
she learned her craft with the Football, Men’s soccer,
Wrestling and Tennis teams.
A licensed Athletic Trainer in the State of New York, Eng is
certified by several organizations including the National Athletic
Trainers Association (NATA), National Safety Council, and the
American Red Cross.
In addition to her athletic training duties, Eng is an Assistant
Professor for the Academy. She is responsible for the instruction
of all Midshipmen in First Aid and Ship’s Medicine for their
Coast Guard licensing exams.
Eng currently resides in Bayside, New York.
