Rob Alfheim will be entering his fifth year as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the US Merchant Marine Academy. This will be Alfheim's sixth year with the Academy, as he served as an intern to USMMA's Athletic Training program in 2001.

As an Assistant Athletic Trainer, Alfheim is responsible for evaluation, prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and medical referrals for the 23 Mariner athletic programs.

Prior to returning to the Mariners, Alfheim served as a two-year graduate assistant at Northern Illinois University where he recieved a M.S.Ed in Exercise Physiology. At NIU, he was responsible for the evaluation, prevention, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and medical referrals for 16 Division I sports, specifically with women's volleyball, baseball, football and wrestling.

While obtaining his Bachelors in human Movement and Sports Science in the study of Athletic Training at Sacred Heart University, Alfheim worked as a student athletic trainer; where he learned his craft as student assistant with football, JV hockey, baseball, track and cross country.

A licensed athletic trainer by the State of New York, Alfheim is certified by several oraganizations including the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and is a member of several groups including CPR for the Professional Rescuer & First Aid and the National Safety Council CPR Instructor.

In addition to his athletic training duties, Alfheim is responsible for the instruction of all USMMA Midshipmen in First Aid and Ships for their Coast Guard Licensing exams.

Alfheim currently resides in Elmont, NY.
