Shane McGrath is entering his 1st season as the assistant coach of the men’s and women’s Swimming and diving teams at The United States Merchant Marine Academy.  Prior to his arrival at Kings Point, McGrath was the assistant at Rowan University for three seasons, where he coached two Division III NCAA Qualifiers.  Here, he managed meet operations; developed work outs and primarily utilized his knowledge in coaching distance swimmers as his specialty.  McGrath was also an assistant for The Greater Philadelphia Aquatic club where he worked with age group swimmers and junior national level athletes.  Before pursuing coaching, McGrath was a distance swimmer for Rowan and earned the position of Captain for the 2006-2007season. McGrath obtained his bachelor’s degree in Health and Exercise Science along with a teaching certification for grades K-12.  Away from the pool, he is an American Heart Association C.P.R instructor and a certified open water lifeguard.  For the past 12 summers, McGrath was a Lieutenant for the Avalon Beach patrol where he won countless lifeguard races including 5 SuperAthalon Titles.  McGrath assumes this position at the United States Merchant Marine Academy with the knowledge, skills and experience to further the excellence of the Mariners’ swimming and diving teams.
