Shane McGrath is entering his second season as the Assistant Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams at the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
During his first season with the Mariners, McGrath assisted in coaching the men’s team to their 11th straight conference championship while helping Kevin Lindgren and Frank Vita qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships where they received a total of four All-American honors. The women's squad placed third at the Landmark Conference Championships in 2012, their highest finish ever.
Prior to his arrival at Kings Point, McGrath was an assistant coach at Rowan University for three seasons, where he coached two Division III NCAA Qualifiers. At Rowan, he managed meet operations, developed work-outs, and primarily coached distance swimmers, his speciality.
McGrath also served as an assistant for The Greater Philadelphia Aquatic club where he worked with junior national level athletes. Before pursuing coaching, McGrath was a distance swimmer at Rowan, serving as team captain for the 2006-2007 season. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Health and Exercise Science along with a teaching certification for grades K-12. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, he is an American Heart Association C.P.R instructor, a certified open water lifeguard, and a certified pool operator. For the past 12 summers, McGrath was a Lieutenant for the Avalon Beach patrol where he won multiple lifeguard races including five SuperAthalon Titles.
McGrath is currently working towards his Master's in Sport Management at Adelphi University. He resides in Douglaston, NY.
