Johan C. Lopez concluded his sixth season as the Head Diving Coach for the USMMA Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Teams in 2018-19. Lopez served the previous four years in the same position at his alma mater, Lehman College. He was a member of the coaching staff that led Lehman to the 2012 and 2013 CUNYAC Championship.
During his time here at Kings Point, Lopez has coached multiple divers to NCAA qualifying marks, has had one of his divers compete in the NCAA Championships and has had multiple divers named Landmark Divers of the Year. He has also had multiple divers win All-American honors and Academic All-American honors and he was part of the Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year all three seasons.
During the 2015-16 season, Lopez coached three of his divers - Gerrit Porter, Blythe Fentress and Adam Fisher - to NCAA qualifiers, with Porter going on to the NCAA Championships and coming in sixth in the three-meter dive and 11th in the one-meter dive. Porter earned All-American honors for those finishes and Fisher was named an Academic All-American for his excellence both on the boards and in the classroom. Lopez also coached Porter and Fentress to win Landmark Diver of the Year honors.
Beginning in 2016-17, Lopez has serve on the NCAA Committee for Division III Swimming & Diving for four year. The purpose of the committee is to develop policies and procedures governing the administration and conduct of the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. As a committee member, Lopez is expected to attend the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, the annual meeting each year and propose changes to enhance the student-athlete experience.
In 2016, Coach Lopez was appointed to the USA Diving Senior Rules Subcommittee, nominted by Leslie Hasselbach Adams, who was recentely named Named High Performance Manager at USA Diving. The Rules Committee interprets technical diving rules and considers proposed amendments to the rules for recommendation to the Board of Governors. The Senior Subcommittee, in particular, deals with rules for athletes that are involved and compete for USA Diving at the International/Olympic level of the sport.
In 2014-15, Lopez coached four of his divers to NCAA qualifying marks - Gerrit Porter, Elizabeth Jackson, Blythe Fentress and Ryan Mavity. He also coached Porter and Fentress to Divers of the Year honors from the Landmark Conference.
During the 2013-14 season, Lopez coached two of his divers to NCAA qualifiers - Gerrit Porter and Ryan Mavity. Porter was named the Landmark Conferecne Diver of the Year.
Along with his diving coaching duties at USMMA, Lopez is also the head coach of Olympic Weight Lifting Team (KP Lift) and the Aerial Club, and is the advisor for the Recreations and Outdoors Club.
Lopez has been an active member of USA Diving since 2008.
Lopez was a three-time CUNYAC diving champion, capturing individual crowns in 2007, 2008, and 2009 in his respected events. 3x CUNY All-Star and 3x Diver of the Year.
Bachelor's of Science in Dietetics, Food & Nutrition and completed his Master's Degree in Sports Management at Southern New Hampshire University as an "Outstanding Graduate" with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
