Greg Toop is entering his fifth season as an assistant coach at USMMA. Prior to joining the Academy, he spent four years as the running backs coach at Stony Brook University. During his four years at Stony Brook, he twice produced a pair of 1,000 yard rushers. He also coached the school’s all-time leading rusher as well as the College Sporting News and Big South Freshman of the Year.
In addition to his experience at the collegiate level, Toop brings 33 years of high-school experience to the Mariners. He served on the staff at Half Hollow Hills East High School for 18 seasons. Toop also has made stops at St. Anthony’s (Head Coach), Centereach (Head Coach), Holy Family (Assistant), Half Hollow Hills (Assistant), Chaminade (Assistant), and Newfield (Assistant).
In his collegiate career Toop played at Southern Connecticut State University as the squad’s strong safety as well as long and short snapper.
Off the field, Toop is a retired elementary Physical Education teacher from the Half Hollow Hills C.S.D. and also served as a high school dean of students.
Brother of Head Coach, Mike Toop, Greg and his wife, Jean, reside in Smithtown, NY with their two daughters, Jessica and Kathryn.
